Slap a name to unorthodoxy and meet Tamer Malki. No other quality better characterizes this MBA-graduate-turned-DJs meteoric rise to the foremost echelons of electronic music. Boston offered him only three years to rediscover its nightlife turned ties-over-stilettos and Tamer Malki crowned as its most sought-after DJ at its biggest club night of the week, every week. Continuing to defy social and artistic norms and to outstride the confines of house music and the US East Coast, Tamer has shock & awe grooved all over him, on and off the battlefloor. Pun intended.
Before spinning Boston to storm, Tamer received his Bachelors in Business Management and his Masters in Marketing & Advertising from Boston University. He then shelved the textbooks aside and instead turned, full throttle, to what he has never formally studied: music. Calling him passionate about it is as blatant as an understatement can get. He breathes music, and its been plied to breathe Tamer Malki: an infectious global blend of deep, vocal, tech and tribal house, laced with groovy basslines and a healthy dose of jazz, funk, and classic influences, known to become instant dance floor anthems and play list staples.
Resident at Rumor, Boston's hottest nightclub, while regularly headlining at some of the citys top nightspots, like Underbar, Venu, Royale, Rise, and House of Blues, Tamer has swiftly become an unrivaled magnet to the jet set clientele and a revered innovator and reference in the house music production circles. Having performed and collaborated with some of the world's greatest, such as David Guetta, Steve Angello, Deep Dish, Cedric Gervais, and Sultan, his musical genius has crossed borders and industries, mesmerizing sold-out audiences from London to the Caribbean, not to mention his annual, much-anticipated appearance at the WMC in Miami. After a watershed uber party at Munichs own Jimmy's, Tamer landed his first Euro-based residency to perform quarterly in the Bavarian capital.
Tamer is a chameleon of sorts. Constantly incorporating different styles and subgenres without letting any incorporate him. Refreshingly eclectic and progressive to the bone, always keen to maintain a fine balance in his live sets, of which mostly are original tracks, remixes, and edits at any given performance.
It was only 2008 when Tamer made the inevitable decision to pursue music fulltime, and hes obviously had little time to look back since. But when he does, its to smirk in gratitude at how his academic business background did eventually come through and complement his self-tuition in music and sound engineering. He now has that unique, holistic command of the creative process and economics underlying music production and marketing. Harnessing digital media and Internet distribution channels to the fullest, Tamers biweekly podcast has over 15,000 ardent subscribers, while his music sales on Beatport, iTunes, and other top portals are skyrocketing. The blogosphere reverberates to his beats with every sizzling remix or bootleg unleashed virally (such as Gala and Black Eyed Peas), before being picked up and played by top DJs around the globe.
His first single, Higher, was signed to Digital Lovers Records (Milan) and released on all major portals in the summer of 2009, before his follow-up The Live EP was released by the same label. Premier house blogging site, houseoverdose.com, put it best: "This man is restless" - and restless he is. Expect new benchmarks for Tamer and for house music to be set this year, as the best is not yet to come but is already in the making. The musical arsenal in this wizards pipeline is bound to bedazzle audiences everywhere, but only after it satisfies his harshest and most critical of audiences, an audience of one: Tamer Malki.
